| Prevention of Ice Dams on Gutters | |
|
While it is generally not thought to be a major concern, guttering system problems affects a number of people around the world. These problems can include clogging, poor installation, and blockage. Many people that live in colder temperatures find that ice dams form on their gutters. This simply means that gutters have been blocked with ice that has frozen due to bitter temperatures. The problem with this is that when the ice starts to melt, the excess water can run into a home and destroy the inside structure. If proper steps are not taken, ice and water buildup can also eventually erode the foundation of a home. There are a few ways to prevent this damage, even if the weather is uncooperative. Heat tapes are electric heating wires that are installed right above the gutters of a home. These wires prevent snow and ice from freezing and blocking a gutter from draining the water. They also prevent the excess water from backing up on a roof and leaking into a home. Another simple way to ensure that no ice dams will form is to have a properly insulated and well-ventilated attic. This allows the ice to melt evenly throughout the roof, eliminating the chance of a water or ice buildup. No matter what type of gutter, ice dams are likely to form in colder climates. It is important to know the steps and materials that can be used in order to prevent this situation from ruining the appearance and structure of a home. |
