Choosing the Right Size of Rain Gutters
Choosing the Right Size of Rain Gutters

Rain gutters are installed on nearly every home across the world. They protect the construction of the home by restricting water from damaging the foundation and eroding the landscape. Water buildup or leakage can cause a mold that may cause sickness and slowly rot the structure. Leaking water can also cause damage to the internal walls of a home, which could cost a lot of time and money to repair.

It is important when choosing a guttering system to evaluate the situation and make an educated decision as to which gutters are appropriate for the home. Finding the right size of rain gutters is fairly simple if you have the right tools. The procedure for determining what size is suitable involves several factors, such as roof size, projected rainfall in the area, the volume of the gutter, and downspout size.

Determining the watershed area sounds complicated, but is not that difficult. There are different factors for different roof pitches. These factors are based upon the flatness of the roof and range from 1.3 to 1.0, depending on the pitch. A roof with a pitch of 12-in-12 would have a factor of 1.3, while a flat roof would have a factor of 1.0. The appropriate factor is then multiplied by the surface area of the roof to determine the watershed area.

Generally, gutters are constructed to handle a significant amount of rain. In such places that heavy rain often occurs, it is important to choose a size that allows for excessive rainfall.
Choosing the right size of gutter system is important because it may determine how long the system is effective. Consulting with a certified guttering professional is the best option since they can offer educated assistance.
